Kewatec Delivers new Fire and Oil Spill Response vessel to Loviisa

23 October, 2024

Kewatec has handed over a new fire and oil spill response vessel to the Eastern Uusimaa Rescue Department in Porvoo. The boat is designed to replace the 24 year-old predecessor in Loviisa, which has been in service since 2001, and it also meets modern demands with its versatile features.

The new vessel, which is built in aluminium is 14 meters long and equipped with modern technology. It can pump 2,000 liters of water per minute at a pressure of 10 bars. Its specialized oil spill recovery equipment, developed in collaboration with Lamor, enables efficient oil recovery in the Gulf of Finland.

Tailored to meet the rescue department’s need for effective oil spill response, the boat is equipped with two side cassettes that feature a skimmer system, which can separate oil from water and prevent its spread. Additionally, the boat is fitted with a thermal camera to locate people or animals in the water.

The rescue department’s staff has been trained in the use of the new boat, and their feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The boat has proven to be quiet, easy to operate, and highly efficient in all weather conditions. While the boat is equipped with amenities such as a galley and a restroom, its primary function is to serve as a highly effective tool in marine rescue operations, firefighting, and environmental protection.

Each boat delivered by Kewatec is designed in collaboration with the client to best meet their operational needs. Kewatec is proud to deliver this high-performance boat, which enhances the rescue department’s capacity for oil spill response and firefighting.
